The Scene
In a renovated brick storefront, votive candles illuminate white tablecloths, silver place settings and glass bud vases. Diners linger in conversation while servers dressed in black float around the small dining room. In warm weather, the larger outdoor patio provides views of sunset on the Great Salt Lake.
The Food
The location is new and the menu expanded, but the results are still casually refined. Tasty appetizers like flaky phyllo stuffed with goat cheese and duck confit and spicy crab rolled in smoked salmon are made with care. Salads are fresh and light--one comes with pears and blue cheese, while another arrives with thick curls of Parmesan. For entrees, herb-breaded lamb with polenta, red wine-braised short ribs or leek-stuffed salmon roulade are new twists on old standards, and each is perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Ice creams and cakes are made on-site, but be warned, mouth-watering chocolate pudding cake requires extra time. Service is slow, but the quality of the food makes a visit well worth it.
